Product Overview
Octomore Edition 16.1
A benchmark of modern Islay whisky-making, Octomore Edition 16.1 brings together raw power and refined balance in a five-year-old single malt that pushes boundaries while honouring tradition. Crafted by Bruichladdich Distillery on the Isle of Islay, this expression is distilled from 100 % Scottish Mainland Concerto barley, malted to an extraordinary 101.4 PPM of peat, and matured solely in first-fill American bourbon barrels before being bottled at 59.3% ABV.
Super-Heavily Peated Heritage – This edition represents the opening chapter of the 16th Octomore series, designed as the “reference” point for the range.
Maturation & Craftmanship – Aged for 5 years entirely on Islay, in first-fill bourbon casks, and bottled un-chill-filtered with no added colouring.
Peat & Purity – Featuring 101.4 PPM of phenols, Octomore 16.1 demonstrates that extreme peat levels can coexist with transparency of spirit and palate clarity.
Flavor Profile – The nose opens with sea-spray, orchard fruits and delicate campfire smoke. On the palate, salted caramel, honey-dew melon and ripe apricot ride layered peat smoke, dark chocolate, coconut and mineral earthiness. The finish is long, smoky, pepper-spiced and sustained.
Balanced Boldness – Despite its youth and intensity, Octomore 16.1 remains elegant and structured, demonstrating that youthful spirit need not sacrifice nuance in pursuit of phenolic power.
Built for the whisky enthusiast who seeks uncompromising intensity, yet refined depth, Octomore Edition 16.1 stands as a flagship expression of Islay’s smokiest frontier.
Octomore Edition 16.1 — where peat power meets precision, and bold ambition meets meticulous craft.
